Everyone of us has had it happen. Our hair and makeup is flawless, we're feelin' super sexy, we ask someone to snap a few pics of us with our bestie and then it happens... we look at the camera and think "UGH! Do I really look like that in real life?? My hips, my waistline... I need to work out!!!" Well, the answer to that is no, you probably don't look like that in real life! But - if you pose the wrong way for a photo, your body will look disproportionately larger and your eyes will play tricks on you, spiraling you into a depressing night at home on the couch devouring broccoli and swearing off your favorite Talenti Gelato forever! That's where I come in! As a boudoir photographer here in Sebastian, Florida, women trust me to make them look their BEST on camera, which is done mostly by knowing how to pose them in the most flattering ways. So, here are my top three tips that YOU can use to look slimmer in photos- and you can still have your ice cream too!
TIP ONE: ARMS UP!
The number one thing you can do to slim down that waist line is to get your arms away from your body. Compare the two photos below.
In the first photo, your eye automatically measures my "waistline" from the outside of one arm to the outside of the other arm. In the second photo, by simply putting my hands on my waist, although I'm the exact same size, your eyes see me as looking slimmer because of the gaps between my arms and body. I also have a curvier shape verses the boxy shape on the left.
If you're in a group of people for your picture, raise one arm up and put it on the next person's shoulder and the other hand on your hip, or if posing with a significant other, put your arms around their neck.
TIP TWO: WEIGHT AWAY FROM THE CAMERA
The second tip is also another easy one. Your weight should be away from the camera. Think of it like this: if you are facing the camera, take one foot and place it in front of the other. Now all your weight should be on that back foot. This will give you an hourglass shape instead of the pear shape you get when both feet are together, or the boxy shape men have when they stand feet apart.
TIP THREE: HIPS ROTATED BACK
This one is a little bit trickier to explain. All you have to do is push your booty out ever so slightly! You will feel your hips rotate, almost like your pelvis is aiming down towards the floor. See the photos below and compare.
In the first image, I stood naturally. Again, you can see how your eyes measure the width of my hips from outer edge to outer edge, giving an illusion of wider thighs. In the second image, I rotated my hips by pushing my tushie back, and it created a gap between my things, and my legs instantly look slimmer.
TIP FOUR: WEAR A FORM FITTING OR EMPIRE WAIST TOP
A form fitting top versus a flowing tee will again, accentuate your curves. Eyes will measure the width of your waist from outer edge to outer edge, so you'll do yourself no good to raise your arms up if you have a wide top on. If you're uncomfortable wearing something form fitting, you can wear a shirt that is loose at the bottom, but has a band or tie right below your bra strap. This will give the same effect as a form fitting shirt, minus the love handles :)
Now that I've armed you with these sexy little secrets, the next time you're out with your bestie, do her a favor and share them with her! She'll be happy you did:) Every time I explain these simple tips to my clients, they're so happy that it's not photoshop making them slimmer, but that they REALLY ARE slimmer!
